Current NAGCAS membership categories (to end September 2010)
This membership is available to the Head of the Careers Service in an Higher Education Institution and entitles the member to be represented on the Heads of Service Committee of NAGCAS.
The Head of the Careers Service will be a person who satisfies the qualifications suitable for Professional Careers Services membership as defined in section 4.3 of the constitution and who may be either the formal head of the Careers Service within an Higher Education institution or the nominee of the Higher Education Institution whose employment includes the provision of professional careers advisory services and/or the responsibility for the co-ordination of the provision of such services.
This membership also enables the Head of Service to nominate the staff of their Service and related areas of the institution whose membership fees they will be paying for.
Please note that Heads of Service members are also required to complete their own individual membership.
There are two categories of individual membership which can be selected when completing the membership form.
Professional
This membership is available to those who:
· are employed in Careers Services in Higher Education Institutions
· provide related services (e.g. placement and employment in Higher Education institutions (where nominated by the Head of the Careers Service as part of the Careers Service membership
· have qualified for a degree from a recognised tertiary education institution and have appropriate experience; or
· have qualifications and/or experience deemed appropriate in terms of the objectives of NAGCAS.
Associate
This membership is available to those who:
· are not eligible for Professional membership but who support the objectives of NAGCAS and who wish to be associated with it. Associate members will not be eligible for elections to, or sit on the management committee or any sub-committee. Associate members shall have speaking rights but no voting rights at all general meetings.

NEW MEMBER CATEGORIES FROM OCTOBER 2010
Members please note that new membership categories were ratified as part of the constitution at the NAGCAS AGM in December 2009. These categories will come into effect when memberships are due for renewal in October 2010.
The new categories open membership to a broader base primarily for persons from post-secondary institutions and are determined according to the policies and procedures of the Career Industry Council of Australia and its Professional Standards for Australian Career Development Practitioners.
