The 2012 Conference Committee has taken our theme of connecting to heart in building-in opportunities for delegates to connect with colleagues and engage in discussion with each other on topics of interest.

Amongst the keynote presentations and concurrent sessions, social activities are included to facilitate networking opportunities providing a chance to meet new people as well as catch up with old colleagues. This also allows more time to discuss in depth the ideas and strategies being presented in the sessions.

It is our pleasure to host all delegates over the coming days as we examine the current trends that are driving "Career Development for the Future: Connecting, Contributing, and Influencing."

As an organisation, how we connect to and influence industry employers, policy makers, the higher education sector and our respective post-secondary education institutions is essential to the progress, longevity and sustainability of NAGCAS. We aim to share and celebrate excellence in program and policy development, innovative products, supporting technologies, new service delivery models, and research developments. We make significant contributions to the professional development of our members, to ultimately support our clients.

NAGCAS is dedicated to implementing sustainable event management, so we have reduced the environmental impact of the conference wherever possible. Conference bags have been replaced with 'old uni' promotional bags, we are trialling removing mini programs from lanyards and following on from the 2011 NAGCAS conference in Melbourne, we have also decided to forgo gifts for our presenters. These initiatives have led to reduced costs, meaning we are able to partner with Hobsons Press to offer an Indigenous Scholarship for Postgraduate studies in Career Development.

The Conference Committee would like to thank the students who as part of their work-integrated-learning have assisted in the planning and management of the 2012 NAGCAS Conference. They have been a constant reminder of why it is so wonderful to work in post-secondary career services.
