Hello Colleagues,

We have past the winter solstice and are now nearly half way through what has been to date, for most of us, a ‘full-paced’ year. Working at such intensity sometimes means we forget to reflect on our achievements. One way for NAGCASians to celebrate our successes is to participate in the ‘Best Practice Awards’ at the NAGCAS Conference. I hope every university shares a Best Practice program or resource at this year’s conference. I personally gain so many ideas from what other universities are doing and appreciate the collegiality that invariable follows as I adapt what I have seen and learnt to my own university. Strengthening NAGCAS’s Community of Practice in 2016 is the Conference Committee’s initiative to extend Best Practice to encourage emerging resources and services to be showcased. So now is the time to put your thinking caps on and prepare for the Conference announcements.

NAGCAS’s relationship with GCA continues to evolve with an exciting research program due to commence in the coming months, with the official launch set for the Conference. Institutional Representatives will be fully briefed at this years Head Of Service Symposium to be held in Perth from the 28th – 30th August. Collaboration between NAGCAS, GCA and sponsors has meant there are only minimal costs to participate so we look forward to welcoming as many universities as possible to this first multi-day IR event. Over the next month NAGCAS will pilot webinars using our new technology. Your participation would be wonderful for a range of reasons:

– You will be able to participate in valuable PD

– Members participating will be asked if they are happy to be part of an informal focus group and tell us what worked and what we could do better

– You may recognise that this is an easy way to share information and volunteer to host a PD event through a webinar

The first Webinar will be the Best Practice Award Winner from 2015, The University of Adelaide, presented by Tony Zheng.

On behalf of all NAGCAS members, the Management Committee has formally thanked Catherine Klimes for the work she has undertaken over the last three years as our National Treasurer. It is appropriate to acknowledge Catherine again not only for the expertise she brought to the role but also for the endless number of volunteer hours she contributed to NAGCAS. In farewelling Catherine we welcome Sunil Vyas to the Treasurer’s role. Sunil has studied as an accountant and is currently working in the field of salary packaging for the not for profit sector. He has worked in the retail, customer service and account management services for the past decade. For many of our members your first opportunity to meet Sunil will be at the Conference in Adelaide.
